History – Old Fort Niagara

This historic village is nestled with the Niagara River flows into Lake Ontario. It has a long history dating back to the 1670s but of course, over the years, villages change and adapt and in the 1850s, three railroads were built heading towards the village but the electric line carried supplies to the village and Fort as well as bringing thousands of people to the area.

This national historic landmark and New York State historic site has over 100,000 visitors each year and is located in Youngstown. The history of Old Fort Niagara spans over 300 years and three flags are flown daily today above the ground symbolizing the nations have held Fort Niagara.

Being nestled at the mouth of the Niagara River means that residents and visitors enjoy many water activities such as fishing, kayaking, waterskiing and sailing. Other activities include exploring Fort Niagara State Park, Niagara jet adventures on the water, of course the famous Niagara Falls North, and some fantastic restaurants such as the Youngstown Village Diner, Bandannas Bar and Grill, and Ray’s Tavern.
