With snow in the forecast this weekend, many Medina locals, especially the children, are giddy and ready to enjoy a snow day. While the snow will soon start to stick and before we know it the snow will be a regular sight, the excitement of winter is upon us. In addition to the many traditional ways Medina locals enjoy the snow, from a snowball fight, sledding, enjoying a warm cup of hot chocolate, or building a snowman, there is something a little extra special that seems to be a favorite for those of all ages when the snow starts to fall, snow tubing.
While you can indeed enjoy the snow from the comfort of the Village of Medina, there are a few places nearby where you can enjoy a winter wonderland while sliding town a tubing hill, making memories that are sure to last well beyond the Holiday season. Whether you’re up for a day trip and plan to enjoy an adventure and return home afterwards to the comfort of your own bed, or if you’d prefer to stay in a nearby hotel for a winter staycation, these two ski resorts are sure to please for both day trips or family vacations.

Holiday Valley
With a warming hut, a fireplace, restrooms and even a snack bar, this tubing hill is easily a favorite for Medina residents. Located in nearby Ellicottville, Holiday Valley is great for the whole family as in addition to the main tubing hills they also boast a Little Tubers area for children who are under 42” ensuring that even the smaller members of your family can enjoy the Holiday Valley Winter Wonderland.
Peek’n Peak
Something that sets this hill apart from the others is its immersive nighttime spectacular. Lunar Lights Tubing is a nighttime tubing adventure unlike any other. Boasting a neon light show with projections as well as music broadcasted through the speakers via a live DJ, Lunar Light Tubing is arguably the best nighttime party found for miles. The conveyer belt, called the “Magic Carpet” helps shuffle tubers to the top of the hill vs. requiring tubers to climb and hike, allowing for a more leisurely adventure. After a few runs down the hills, should you work up an appetite, the Retreat Building is a great place to end your night with their full menu of dining options.
As with many winter activities, make sure to bundle up with a warm hat, scarf, good snow boots, and in addition, invest in a good pair of gloves to help keep your hands warm during all of your winter festivities both within and surrounding Medina.
