Homes for Sale in Medina NY

Medina New York is a small little village between Middleport and Knowlesville in Orleans County New York. It’s home to just over 6500 residents, surprisingly making it the county’s most populated village. The small village developed after construction of the Erie Canal which bends as it passes through the village creating a basin that served as a stopover point for boats and ships traveling inland. This village became the center of businesses that serve the trade and passenger traffic on the canal and several mills were constructed in the early 20th century. The fertile lands around the village gave way to many major markets and exports to New York City. Medina is just an hour from Rochester and Buffalo.

More on Medina New York

Medina is located on the long Highway 31 and the Erie Canal. It’s accessible via Highway 63 or 31A, both of which intersect in Medina. It’s also close to Glenwood Lake featuring Parks, boating, and a connection to the Erie Canal. There are plenty of Parks and Recreation facilities as well as annual events and festivals in Medina even for being such a small town. There are seven parks such as the John E Butts Memorial Park which features an outdoor skating rink in the winter, a skateboard park and sports courts in the summer, docking facilities and electrical hookups at the Medina Canal Basin Park, and the Rotary Park featuring an all-season house used by Santa Claus during the Christmas season.

Medina offers residents and visitors great annual events such as Ale in Autumn where folks can walk the downtown area sampling beers from around the world. The parade of lights and Christmas lighting ceremony held every Saturday after Thanksgiving and Wine Walk around the downtown village area. You can see we have a thing for food and beverage, O exclamation mark and we can’t forget about the Suites In Summer, where, you guessed it, taste suites and candies from around town.

Medina also houses some of the oldest houses in the county. Located at 224 Eagle St. just a block from the Erie Canal on the north side of town is one of the oldest homes built in the early 1820s purchased by the Burnham family in the 1930s and has actually stayed in possession of family members until the mid-1980s. Unfortunately, this house was torn down in 2012 but there are remnants of history and landmarks to remember such icons.

Things to Do

Probably one of the most iconic things to do and see is simply the landscape. Medina has some of the most beautiful typography in the county. You’ll have to visit Medina Falls and spend an afternoon enjoying the lush foliage, and beautiful rushing waters. Jacob Creek is also a beautiful place to catch autumn foliage as the leaves turn and drop into the slow-moving creek.

The Medina Railroad Museum is a fun place to stop for kids of all ages and the historic site of the Erie Canal Culvert will bring a little mystery and history into anyone’s life. There are also fantastic places to eat like Zambistro, Rudy’s and Fitzgibbons Public House.
