Lewiston may be small but we do have a vibrant food scene. We have some amazing restaurants in town and just outside so here are some of our favorites and what to order.
Located at 810 Center St. in downtown, this American traditional gastropub has the old school burgers and delicious hand cut French fries your craving. This is akin to the Griffin Gastropub in Niagara Falls, just across the river but it still has its own flare. Curl up by the fireplace with some delicious chicken fried steak, smoked Gouda mac & cheese, or fish Oscar topped with a lump blue crab meat and finished with a citrus hollandaise sauce and grilled asparagus. This old-school classic is a favorite among ice cream lovers and frozen custard lovers alike. Locally owned since 1939, frozen custard uses much less air than ice cream creating richer flavor. Flavors are always changing and they’re coming up with new combination but some of our favorites include black raspberry milkshakes, cookies and cream, rum raisin, and caramel pretzel just to name a few. Don’t like any of those flavors? That’s okay, there’s nearly 60 flavors to choose from.
This Lewiston staple features gourmet burgers, brews, salads, and just about something for everyone. You have to check out the pub pretzels with Hayburner cheese and Dijon aoli, or perhaps the Paris geese filled with goat cheese, tomato confit, and horseradish cream. The Hair of the Cow is definitely a hangover burger filled with a fried egg, maple cheddar, bacon, and an orange Jamison aoili, exactly what the hangover doctor ordered. Looking for a good meat and potatoes dish? Check out the house made beef brisket, crispy onions and apple slaw. With nearly 100 items on their menu, there’s something for everyone at the Cask & Cow.
Carmelo’s is that perfect date night adventure. Whether it’s bucatini with crispy pancetta, seared flat iron steak with wild mushroom Ragu, or your own cheese and meat charcuterie platter with delicious pickled veg and crispy bread, there’s something for everyone at this fantastic Italian restaurant. Even vegetarians rejoice over the charred cauliflower steak with lentils and red pepper purée.
Located at Caroline Cellars, this café at their winery features farm to table country fair year-round. This is date night on steroids. You’ll want to book way in advance as they have café menus and tasting menus available throughout the year.
If Mexican food is on your list, you have to check out this amazing little dive. Be sure to get there loaded nachos, a burrito anyway you want, or a unique twist on a spinach salad with garbanzo beans, eggs and cheese.
